Goa Afterglow: the Goan coast in December
Slow mornings, Goan food and the end-of-year sunsets on the Arabian Sea. What Goa is like in December, who a journey like this would suit, and where our plans stand.

Where this stands
This is a journey we are thinking about organising, not one you can book. We are gathering interest while we work on it behind the scenes. Nothing is confirmed yet: no prices, no partners and no places are held. More is cooking, and people who register interest hear first when it moves.
The journey page lists December 2026 as the month we are planning around. The exact week, the venues and the programme are still in development, and there are no prices yet.
What Goa is like
Goa sits on India's west coast, on the Arabian Sea. Its long Portuguese history shows in its architecture: the Basilica of Bom Jesus in Old Goa, a UNESCO World Heritage site, holds the remains of St Francis Xavier, and the capital, Panaji, sits at the mouth of the Mandovi river. The beaches run from busy Baga and Calangute in the north to quieter Palolem and Agonda in the south.
The food is half the reason to go. India's tourism board describes Goan cooking as a fusion of Indian, Portuguese and Konkani influences: fish curry rice, prawn balchão and xacuti, with bebinca, a layered cake, for dessert.
Why December
India's tourism board calls the winter months the golden time for Goa's beaches. Goa's own tourism department describes a festive season that ends in a week-long celebration from Christmas to New Year: churches lit up, carols and music, and the last sunsets of the year on the beaches.
Who it would suit
- Slow travellers who want coast, warmth and time, not a packed schedule.
- Food lovers curious about a cuisine shaped by India and Portugal.
- Music and sunset people who like their evenings by the sea.
Registering interest does not reserve a place or create a payment. It tells us who would come, which helps shape the journey.
